This was my first year visiting the Hat Fair in Winchester and will certainly go back next year. It is randomly called the ‘Hat Fair’ even though it has nothing to do with Hats! This is actually a celebration of Street Arts and Outdoor Performances. It is held on the first weekend of July every year and has been going since 1974!
We arrived there fairly late so didn’t see many performances though the one we did see was quite long but very interesting. The play was called “Heartland” and Performed by the Scarabeus Aerial Theatre Candoco Dance Company.
This story was based on the Minotaur and Icarus Legends. It was created by the Candoco Dance Company, Scarabeus Aerial Theatre and Written by Nicky Singer. This was an exhilarating and moving theatrical experience where the earth born yearn for the sky and those that fly may also fall…
“The choreography was emotionally charged and the two performers (one disabled and one non-disabled) were at times physically intertwined with the nature of beauty, art, and taste, the performers become opposite, shadow, reflection and continuation of each other.”
We went with my best friend and my God Children, they are quite young but sat all the way through mesmerized by the performance. All in all it was a success and proved to be something of interest and next year we shall get there earlier and watch more than one performance!
